Since 1984, The Refuge Center has been dedicated to helping women and men find their way through the emotions that come with the realization of pregnancy. We have learned over all those years that every pregnancy situation is unique. Yours is too!

When you schedule an appointment with us, one of our trained Client Advocates will meet with you. She will take the time to listen and understand your unique situation. This part of your appointment is highly personalized and customized to your needs, so it can take as much or as little time as you need it to.

Your Pregnancy, Your Options

The Next Step... is to verify that you are pregnant with a medical grade test.

Once a test returns positive for the presence of pregnancy hormones (HCG), we offer you a free initial ultrasound to verify the pregnancy is viable.

 

The confirmation of viability through ultrasound is extremely important for three reasons:

  1. Over 1 in 4 pregnancies (28%) will end in miscarriage before 8 weeks gestation. If you are considering abortion, you may not have to put yourself through an abortion if your pregnancy is not viable.

  2. Some pregnancies can occur outside the uterus. These (ectopic) pregnancies can be life threatening. It is extremely important that you rule out the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy before you make plans for any kind of abortion.  If you have an ectopic pregnancy, we will refer you to seek immediate emergency care.

  3.  If you do not have health insurance coverage, once your viable pregnancy has been confirmed through an ultrasound, we will give you the required form to apply for pregnancy Medicaid. Take this form to your local Health Department to receive the health insurance benefits that you need.
